Seven Point Oh Four: Ubuntu Feisty Fawn

March 25th, 2007 — 11:53pm

At the risk of sounding like the biggest geek in the world: I love LINUX and I don’t care who knows it. This weekend I wanted to move my 60GB drive that was running Ubuntu: Edgy Eft and Windows and put all my data in a complete blank 80GB hard drive. I thought this was going to be tough.

Normally, in Windows this would be an ENORMOUS task. I booted an Ubuntu:Fiesty Fawn Beta Disk into my system and installed it to the new hard drive (which took me twenty minutes, as usual [you know, like Windows :P]). Then I logged into my new operating system and there I was on a completely foreign desktop. If there was one thing I hated about reinstalling Windows was getting everything back the way I liked it: my bookmarks, my settings, my desktop, etc. I proceeded to drag and drop my old “home” directory to my new one, when i was done transferring the files, I logged out, logged in and there I was… like I never even left. I’m still perplexed at why people even bother with any other OS anymore, the corporate giants have such a hold on home consumers that people feel trapped: I can’t use Linux, I don’t know Linux. Guess what, neither did I.

[Commence Advertisement] Go download a CD and use the live CD to browse around. I dare you. They even tell you how to burn a copy using free CD burning software! NO CD BURNER?! You can order one! All for free. Yep that’s right, free. Software? Yep also free. For all my friends reading this (that aren’t already on Linux) I am willing to help you get installed and show you the world through the eyes of open source. Be free, it feels good.

My Truly Lost Love: New York City

March 25th, 2007 — 11:35pm

Looking back on my short life, I am filled with memories that are so deep and rich with emotion that they overwhelm me. None are greater than those I enjoyed in NYC. So many hardships and they are completely overlooked by how lucky I have been in life to share these memories with such phenomenal people.
