Ubuntu Linux 8.10: What the hell is an Intrepid Ibex?

February 22nd, 2008 — 4:14pm

Mark Shutterworth aka Ubuntu Lord has announced the new name of 8.10: Intrepid Ibex. Given that Hardy is not even out of Alpha yet, I’d wish they’d taken some more time before radomly picking an animal(?) from the I portion of the dictionary. In case you don’t know, all versions of Ubuntu are named after animals with some clever adjective attached. I’m running on Gutsy Gibbon at the moment, you know a Monkey with Cojones. So I had to go investigate and here’s what I’ve found:

Ibex

Dude, Mark, Seriously… WTF!? Goats? What’s so cool about a Goat that is Intrepid? I swear it 9.04 better be Jugular Jaguar or else.  That’s strike one Mark, I’m not even gonna look at your freaking track record.  Ok, at least they’ve got some pretty awesome horns.

If you could see me writing this you’d see me FREAKING OUT right about now… I’m just very excited that this very innovative game has a future, moreover that people recognize it for its amazing play. It has won Game of the Year at GDC. It’s ok to applaud now. Check out the vid below

Thanks Joel!

Holy Crap! There is a new button up there! It’s for My Music!

February 21st, 2008 — 4:57am

Drafted CoverUpdate: If you downloaded “Knock on Wood” or the album before Feb 21st, 2PM there has been a change in that track. The wrong file was there previously.

The day has finally come where I can sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labor. You can download the full album for free using the My Music link above. It contains “old” songs that I compiled to form this album. There will be a followup album for purchase through CD Baby online where you will get bonus material (and full lyrics and liner notes).

Please feel free to distribute, share, remix, and enjoy these songs under the Creative Commons License. I also welcome you to enjoy the album in 2 formats: MP3 and Ogg Vorbis.

Don’t hesitate to address me with any questions you have about this release and please… I would love to hear your comments about the songs (and the cover). If you are interested in the liner notes, feel free and email me at edwin AT edwinsoto DOT net and I will gladly send you a copy. One thing I that I did want to share from those liner notes is the Thank You’s that I had written they were very important to me and NON paying listeners should know whom is responsible for this release. The thanks you’s are after the jump.

Popping the YouTube Cherry

February 18th, 2008 — 8:42am

I Need to Get Vlogging People

February 15th, 2008 — 1:34am

I am reaching out to the Interwebs for some assistance here. I am looking for the best webcam solution. My only requirements:

  • Be able to create video captures on Ubuntu Linux (Windows only if I HAVE to).
  • Easy software to just capture, compress into some sort of avi or mpeg that I can upload on to YouTube or like service. Preferably something nice an open source.

That’s It! Simple demands right? I want to video blog some stuff. Especially for EJ’s Site, which is in dire need of content. Thank you Interwebs!

Molly and her Ukulele return to this website!

February 13th, 2008 — 9:05pm

Thanks to Jonathan Coulton, I have found this newfound respect for comedic music. But not just any comedic music, it has to be excruciatingly clever. I posted a video of Molly playing Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’, but Here’s a new video with an original song called “My Hope.” Enjoy.
